Help for Days To Go Widget, the widget that counts the days to a date, on Garmin watches.

Contact

Questions or bugs: email hello@verden.watch. Please include your watch model and its software version, whether you have Days To Go Widget or Days To Go Widget Pro, and the date you set.

Setting the date on the watch

Open the widget and press START (or tap the screen on a touch watch, or hold UP). Choose Set date, then pick the month, day and year. The count updates at once. On a colour screen the same menu has Accent, where each colour has a disc beside its name. On the black-and-white Instinct START opens Set date directly and there is no accent colour. Choose Every year as the year for a birthday or anniversary.

Until you set a date, the widget counts to the next New Year’s Day.

Name and counting, in Garmin Connect

In the Garmin Connect app, open your watch, then the Connect IQ settings for Days To Go Widget. There you can give the event a name (up to 16 characters), choose to count in days or in weeks and days, and choose Day first or Month first dates. Days To Go Widget Pro adds the time of day, the minute and the event time zone, for your own date only.

Common questions

What does “Every year” mean?

Choose Every year as the Year and the widget counts to the next time that day comes round: birthdays, anniversaries, holidays. It rolls over by itself the day after. For 29 February it counts to 28 February in years that have no 29 February.

It says SET A DATE.

The date you saved does not exist, for example 30 February or, with Every year, 31 April. Press START and pick a real date. In the glance list it says “Set a date”.

When does the count change?

At midnight on your watch’s clock. Tomorrow is 1 day, the day itself says TODAY, and the day after it counts the days since. With a start time (Pro), the last 24 hours before it count down in hours and minutes, and the day itself says TODAY from that time on.

How do I see weeks?

Set Count in to Weeks. From one full week on, the widget shows whole weeks and the days over (6 weeks + 3 days). In the glance list it shows days where the weeks would not fit.

How do I count to a time, not just a day?

In Days To Go Widget Pro, set Event to My own date, then Time of day to the hour of the event and Minute to its minute. New Year’s Day and Christmas Day last all day and take no start time. In the last 24 hours the widget counts down in hours and minutes (7h 51m), and once the time arrives it says TODAY until midnight. The free widget counts whole days.

The event is in another time zone.

In Days To Go Widget Pro, with a start time on your own date, set Event time zone to the UTC offset the event’s place will be on that day. The hours and minutes then count down to that moment wherever you are. The widget keeps no time zone rules, so it does not adjust for daylight saving: if the place changes its clocks before the event, pick the offset it will be on by then. The day count itself stays on your own calendar and changes at your own midnight.

Which accent colours does Pro add?

More colours on colour screens. Screens with fewer colours, such as the 8-colour Forerunner 55, keep the three colours the free widget offers there.

Can I name the event?

Yes: up to 16 characters in Name, in Garmin Connect. Leave it empty to show no name.

Does it work without my phone?

Once set up, yes. Nothing in the widget needs a connection.
