Privacy policy
Sun Window for Garmin watches. Effective 13 October 2026.
What Sun Window reads
To work out where the sun is, as the screen draws: the time and date, a location (see below) and, from your watch’s own weather, the current UV index or the cloud cover (which one depends on the day). The weather is Garmin’s own estimate, read from data the watch already holds; Sun Window uses it only to show an open window as closed when the UV index is low or the cloud is heavy, and gives no advice about it.
Permissions
The app asks for this, and for nothing else:
- Positioning: to read the last place your watch knows, so the sun’s height can be worked out for where you are.
Location
Sun Window needs to know roughly where you are to place the sun. It reads the last location your watch already knows and, only if there is none, asks the watch for one position once. It keeps that place rounded to a tenth of a degree, so it is a region and not an address. The rounded place is stored on the watch only.
What Sun Window saves
Kept in the app’s own storage on your watch: that rounded place, your accent colour, and two dates (the day you first opened Sun Window and the day it last asked for a rating). The weather and everything else is held in memory while the screen draws and is not saved.
What Sun Window shares
Nothing. It has no network access, so your place and the weather are never sent by the app to the developer, to Garmin Connect or to anyone else. Your accent colour is the one thing that passes through Garmin Connect, so a change made in the phone app can reach the watch.
On watches that support it, Sun Window may ask for a rating in the Connect IQ Store, at most once a month and not in its first week. Your watch first asks the store whether it may show Garmin’s rating screen; Sun Window adds none of its data (no place, no weather) to that request.
Purchases
Garmin handles purchases through the Connect IQ Store under Garmin’s privacy policy. The developer never sees your payment details.
